EastEnders Sam Mitchell's return most dramatic moments from topless modelling to arson

EastEnders fans were shocked on Monday (April 18) when Sam Mitchell made an unexpected return to the Square.

Played by Kim Medcalf, the star hasn’t appeared in Albert Square as Sam since 2005.

Between 2009 and 2010, the character was played by Danniella Westbrook, and she returned again in 2016.

The original Sam is back, making a visit to her brother Phil (played by Steve McFadden) in prison after he made the decision to become a police informant.

Her return can only mean things are about to escalate, as she’s been in more than a few shocking situations herself over the years.

Here are the top five most unbelievable Sam Mitchell moments over the years.

Sam has always been known for her good looks, but she certainly capitalised on it career-wise.

She pursued a modelling career and agreed to do a photoshoot when a professional photographer insisted on building her portfolio.

However, it wasn’t long before Sam realised that the photographer had other ideas in mind.

She posed for a series of topless pictures that soon found their way onto the front cover of a motoring magazine.

It was one of the more embarrassing moments for Sam, but she certainly found success in modelling... just not how she expected.

Conned out of a fortune

Sam has had her fair share of bad guys - after all, she has never had any problem in attracting the attention of men.

After her first marriage to Ricky Slater, she tore through a few questionable relationships.

However, the one that left her most devastated was Andy Hunter.

He was a gangster that had one goal in mind – taking over Phil’s business.

Sam was just one small part of his insidious plan and he soon married her to see his mission through.

After she signed over Phil’s house, Andy chucked her and left her penniless.

It was a grim situation and one Sam took a long time to recover from.

Arson insurance scam backfiring

During a time when Phil was on the run after escaping prison, Sam was left the keys to the Mitchell empire.

Almost immediately, funds started going down, leaving her in a desperate position.

She convinced her cousin Billy to light up Phil’s snooker club for the insurance.

However, the fire spread over to Den Watts’ nightclub and almost killed his daughter, Vicki Fowler.

It wouldn’t be Christmas in Albert Square without someone being murdered.

In 2009, Archie Mitchell was found clubbed to death by the Queen Vic bust.

A long list of suspects soon cropped up and Sam was one of them.

Unfortunately for Sam, she returned to the Square the very day he was murdered, putting her in the forefront of the investigation.

Ultimately, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Sam Mitchell murder cover-up

After Den Watts conned Sam out of the Queen Vic, he became the new landlord, leaving her in the lurch.

Teaming up with Chrissie, Den’s wife, and ex-lover Zoe, the three plotted their revenge.

In the end, Chrissie murdered Den, but the three of them covered up the death.

Chrissie framed Sam for the murder but at the last minute, Phil and Grant proved her innocence.

Sam escaped to Brazil when she was on bail.
